May 2012 – Hockley Library - Did you know?  Free GO-ON Beginners Computer Course Sessions are starting in May.  Guided learning at your own pace Saturdays at 10 am.  Limited places.  See staff to book.  We keep our newspapers for a month so ask a member of staff if you would like to read a certain one.  You can sign up to Essex Libraries' Virtual Reader Group.  They recommend books that everyone is talking about.  Just visit the website and sign up www.free-library-news.net .  If you have a friend or family member who can't get into the library we can bring books to them.  Ask a member of staff for details about the Home Library Service.  You can follow us online @EssexLibraries on Twitter, Facebook and Youtube.  Phone: 01702 203558.

02/06/2012 – Hawkwell Parish Council is now planning their next Summer Fayre that is becoming a very successful bi-annual event with something for everyone from dog shows to belly dancers.  The fayre will take place as it did in 2010 on the Rochford Hundred Rugby Club ground in Magnolia Road on Saturday 2nd June 2012.  If you are interested in getting involved or would like a stall at the fayre please contact the clerk Stuart Mennell on 01702 207710.

30/06/2012 – Hockley & District Horticultural Society Plant Sale (Saturday).  Hockley & District Horticultural Society are located at the rear of Hawkwell Village Hall and are open every Sunday from February to October 2012 for all your garden sundries.  To take advantage of their reasonable prices you will need to become a member at a cost of £3.

24-28/09/2012 – 5 day Break in the West Country a Hockley Residents Association Coach Trip.  We will be staying at the Tortworth Court Hotel, Wotton-under-edge, South Gloucestershire.  Tortworth Court is a 4 star grade II listed Victorian Mansion, set in 30 acres of parkland.   It is set in its own arboretum of over 300 rare trees.  There will be evening meal, bed & breakfast, and the rooms are en-suite with all facilities.    There is a swimming pool, gym, sauna & steam room.  All the above, including coach trips and entrance fees for outings mentioned below are included in price. Beauty treatments at the spa are extra.  Whilst we are away we will be visiting Highgrove (home of Price Charles), where we will have  a champagne  tea and a  guided  tour of  the gardens.    We  will  go to Hidcote Manor, which is recognised as one of the Country’s greatest gardens, Tyntesfield, a magnificent house in Wraxall, Bristol, and the seaside resort of Weston-Super-Mare. 28/10/2012 – Holkham Estate, Wells-next-the Sea, Norfolk a Hockley Residents Association Coach Trip.  We will stop at Wells for some lunch, and then on to Holkham Hall.  The grand Palladian hall has the perfect location surrounded by acres of rolling parkland rich in wildlife and the nearby north Norfolk coast.  Inside this magnificent family home there are treasures to be discovered in every room.  From incredible architecture, stunning art, original furniture and classical statuary, to the Old Kitchen, crammed with shiny pots and pans on every wall.  The ‘Wives and Daughters’ Exhibition gives added interest, where on display are some of their wedding and evening dresses.  There is a café here for refreshment before we head home.  For an up to date list of coach trips with pickup points in Hawkwell please click on: Coach Trips 2012 , or contact Brian O’shea on 01702 204334 or email brian.oshea@hockleyresidents.co.uk .
